10 Reasons to do a Quest

You’ll have your own reasons for why a Quest is appealing to you. I can help you dig into them, so that your own compass is set and clear.
But as I start week 2 of my own new Quest, and as I’m hearing the reflections of Questful participants who’ve completed their first Mini-Quests, I thought it might be useful to share a few common themes.
These 5 are from me:
Why do I want to do Quests?
1. To bring adventure into the every day.
Example: Just last night I took my notebook with me when I went to the gym, and when I was done I applied my new Quest to the outside of the building. I spent 2 pages describing it and 1 page describing it from a different point of view (a pigeon 😊). It was 8:40 at night. Without my Quest I would have just driven home—an everyday end to a day. Instead I had a totally different experience! Fun.
2. To grow on a regular cadence.
The Quests give me both structure and exploration that helps me grow. And for a relatively small-time commitment every week. (We’re talking on average 2h a week.)
3. To be able to design and choose my own path
Even when I do take a course I am that student that asks if they can set their own homework, based on their actual interests! The freedom to choose my own path excites me.
4. To have nerdy fun.
Given that I didn’t drink alcohol as a teen or through Uni (still don’t) I’ve always been pretty unapologetic about what I actually find fun. And I’m really good at helping others to do the same. All that matters is that it’s fun and interesting to you! And I will geek out all I want on what’s interesting to me.
5. To pay attention—both to myself and the world
I am a very thinky, strategic person. I’m highly organised. I care about others and think about them a lot. So it is REALLY good for me to design Quests that put me fully back in my own experience. And that connect me to myself and the world in whole new ways.
These are paraphrased from my first Questful participants, sharing why they wanted to work with me to do a Quest:
1. To energise me. I love my work, but I need to do something new.
2. I like the idea of getting better at something to do with storytelling, but I don’t know what.
3. I like the look of what you’ve been doing. But I’m not sure what I want to do.
4. I miss doing collaborative things with creative people.
5. I’ve been reading The Comfort Crisis.
So…people wanting more energy, learning, collaboration, creativity and stretch.
Why might you want to do a Quest? Why now? What might you hope to get from it?
Don’t worry if you’re curious, but not sure what your answers would be! If you work with me, we’ll dig into it all, and design something that’s perfect for you.

P.S. All of my Questful participants so far have surprised themselves with what they ended up choosing. All said that the design process shook up their thinking and assumptions in the best ways. And that they ended up with a Quest that was way more them, and more fun.
If you’d like help digging into this and designing a Quest that’s perfect for you, you’re welcome to ask me all the things here.
