And I’m off…PLACE ONE

This morning was a dazzling example of why I do Quests, so I’m going to capture it here.
It has been A WEEK. The kind of week that tests you and leaves you a little sleepless. It happens, and is part of being a human, and yet…
So when I found myself awake at 5:39 am this morning, 20 mins earlier than needed, I made myself a cup of tea, went outside, and started my new Quest—my first place, my first 3 pages. And it was SO FUN.
For those who’ve been on my Quest pilot, and worked through the prompts in their Quest kit, we’ve been setting ‘Rules of the Quest’, to help and support us—as the best kind of creative constraint.
One of my rules for my latest quest is: a minimum of once a week, starting the week of 28th July. I even had the first place I was going to describe in my diary for 8pm tonight. But I woke up and decided…let the adventure begin! (I may still head out tonight and capture a second place.)
Today is still going to be a full on day, but oh my goodness, what a mood boost. I felt like I was seeing the world in a whole new way, and today that was my own deck and surroundings. Trying to describe the shape of the chiminea, and the swoop of the hammock behind it, and those pines that got weighed down by the snow and never righted themselves…it was magical. I was paying attention to sight and sound primarily. And then, after two pages, I switched and wrote through the lens of someone viewing everything as a to-do list. I pushed it to extremes, in a way that really entertained me.
I was taking my time (this included both staring off into space, and brain chatter of things I mustn’t forget to do!) and still it only took me 30 mins, tops.
Would I have done this without the shape and intention of this new Quest? No.
Was it a thoroughly brilliant addition to my week? Yes.
Am I excited to do more? 100%
If you’d like help creating and enjoying a Quest that’s perfect for you, you can find me here.
Here’s to a wonderful week.

PS: Update from Sep 2025. I’m now helping people who want to do their own version of this Quest as part of the Fun Four.
